Gladstone set to become QLD’s green energy manufacturing centre
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced Gladstone is set to become Queensland's energy manufacturing centre. Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) will build the world's largest green energy hydrogen manufacturing facility in Gladstone. The first step in the project is a $115 million manufacturing centre set to be built in Aldoga, west of Gladstone. The facility is expected to double the world's green hydrogen production capacity and bring thousands of jobs to Queensland’s energy industry for years to come. The announcement marked the first stage of a billion-dollar operation.
The proposed facility is a breakthrough for Australia's green energy market that signaled the start of an industrial revolution. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the announcement secured Queensland as part of the "green renewably hydrogen energy revolution". Hydrogen is part of Queensland's future and this sets Queensland up to be an energy powerhouse in green renewable energy. The Premier confirmed 300 jobs would be created in regional Queensland over the lifespan of the facility.
Mr. Forrest, the founder of Fortescue Future Industries stated the green hydrogen market could generate revenues of $US12 trillion by 2050. Fortescue Future Industries has committed to going carbon neutral by 2030.
