Gladstone becoming a world-leading hydrogen hub
The Queensland Government has partnered with Fortescue Future Industries which will transform Gladstone into a world-leading hydrogen hub. Fortescue Future Industries is set to build one of the world’s largest hydrogen equipment manufacturing facilities, placing Gladstone on the map as a world leader in the renewable hydrogen supply chain. The $1 billion-plus investment is expected to double the world’s green hydrogen production capacity and create thousands of jobs in Queensland’s energy industry for years to come. The proposed facility signals the start of an industrial revolution, the first step of the project is a $115 million manufacturing centre and once the green hydrogen manufacturing facility is complete, it will be the biggest of its kind. The founder of Fortescue Future Industries stated the green hydrogen market could generate revenues of $US12 trillion by 2050, and the company has committed to going carbon neutral by 2030.
